Looking For And Purchasing Remanufactured Engines

By John Hall

Every car, motorcycle and truck will suffer a breakdown or mechanical failure and will need repairing by a qualified auto technician. If the failure is serious, it could be that you require a complete new power unit, to get your vehicle back on the road again. A new engine from a manufacturer is going to cost a lot of money and another solution is to purchase remanufactured engines to get you back on the highway.

A brand new engine purchased from a vehicle manufacture is going to cost you thousands of dollars. There are firms that will now take your existing power unit, strip it down and rebuild it so that it functions as it should. Buying and installing one of these units will save a substantial amount of money and it is better for the environment.

There are a couple of ways to get a remanufactured engine for your vehicle and both have benefits. A ready to fit unit can be purchased from a supplier that specializes in refurbishing power plants or you can send your broken one to them and have it reconditioned. Both options are cheaper than buying a brand new unit from a vehicle maker and the unit will be reliable.

There are a large number of auto stores in most areas that can source a remanufactured engine that will be suitable for your vehicle. All of the major models of car will be catered for and if they have a compatible unit in stock it will be ready to fit. If they do not have your particular item in stock they will usually be able to order one for you from one of their suppliers.

Another way to get a remanufactured engine is to use an online engineering firm that supply power units. Their web sites will have a list of the engines they have in their stock and they can be dispatched overnight after you have placed the order. When you are purchasing from one of these online firms it is a good idea to contact them beforehand to make certain you are ordering the correct unit.

When a company does not have a unit in stock, and they cannot order one, they will ask you to send your unit in for them to recondition. Their qualified team of engineers can strip it down and do all of the required mechanical work. Some companies will collect your vehicle from your home, recondition the engine, and bring it back to your address.

If you have to use the services of a courier firm to send your engine for rebuild there are some things to consider. Engines are very heavy and will be expensive to ship by road due to the firms charging by the gross weight of the package. Always make sure that the unit is properly crated and insured against damage or loss in transit.

The remanufacturing businesses will usually offer guarantees with their products. This may be a three year warranty or a mileage based guarantee. Any documents that detail the warranty should be kept in case you need to claim and you should inspect the unit on arrival.
