Before You Go Out And Buy Your Porsche 911 SC

By Raymond Butler

Everyone in the world, whether you are a man or a woman, would love to have a Porsche to drive around and show off. The brand has become so well known down through the decades that it has become a symbol of having arrived. Right now, you are convinced that not only can you afford a Porsche 911 SC but you deserve to have one. Prior to your purchase however, do read on this article for more information on this motoring icon.

The 911 SC is the model that replaced the Targa model of the late 1960s to the late 1970s. The SC stands for Super Carrera, and this model started out on the production lines from 1978 to 1983, and it is still very much popular to date.

Three designs of the 911 SC can be had and you can choose from Cabriolet, Coupe or Targa versions. Only subtle existences between the designs, but depending on what you chose, what the market is like and such, on design version will either be more expensive or cheaper compared to the others. The 1983 models are the ones with a fabric hood option and a fully open top.

As with most earlier models, the engine is located in the rear boot with a standard 3.0 liters engine couple with a 5 speed transmission. The engine can fork out over 200 horsepower which is characteristic of Porsches giving them a boost in acceleration. What helps them give this uncanny boost is because of materials used in the engine.

The 911 SC engine is crafted out of aluminum, thus making it lighter than other conventional engines of the same displacement. Since it is aluminum it will be more resistant to heat, so it has been designed as an air cooled one. Without the presence of a radiator to add weight, the car is much faster due to its lighter weight also. The car being a rear wheel drive, also has options where 4WD or all wheel drive can be installed.

The engine being air cooled should already be an indication if this car is for you or not. Air cooled engines, no matter how efficient, will tend to perform much better in temperate and cooler countries rather than hot and humid climate countries. Aluminum, though has good heat resistance, is not immune to heat in the long term.

Being a specialized manufactured engine, do not expect surplus and generic parts to exist for this car. Thus an issue also you may have to contend with is the actual cost of materials and expertise need for maintenance. It may cost you up to ten times more in maintenance costs on top of paying a trained mechanic that handles such engines.

This article has thus given you a bit of background on this car model and some things you should consider. Remember that buying a car does not rely on knowing the initial cost alone, but on other related factors like maintenance and upkeep. Always try to find all angles of cost when buying a new car, a legend or otherwise.
