The Top Five Security Seals That Metering Devices Need

By Jason McDonald

One of the many security seals that metering devices need the most are padlocks with solid wire hasps. For those that do not know, padlock seals are quite common when it comes to electric meters. One of the reasons for this is that they come in many forms. There are many advanced padlocks that offer greater security. Not only will these be more difficult to tamper with, but they will provide more value in the long term.

The second option to consider is plastic padlock seals. Also known as demand seals, largely due to how common they are alongside demand meters, these require a little more attention. The main reason for this is that they require new seals at regular intervals. With that said, they can be easily applied and removed, even on smaller devices that may be more difficult to work with. This is yet another option that metering devices would do well to have.

Third, wire seals are great for various situations. Keep in mind that they can be used at different wire lengths, but this is far from the only benefit they offer. They are known for being long-lasting as well, even under extreme weather conditions. For those that are looking for seals that will hold up well, despite the varying changes that the weather brings, wire seals will be able to provide the value you are looking for.

Fourth, pull-up cable seals have as many uses as they do protection levels. According to companies such as American Casting & Manufacturing, the seals in question offer no-tool installation, which makes them easy to set up. Furthermore, they are used for many products, including tools and equipment storage. Needless to say, this is yet another option that you should take into account for security purposes.

What if you are curious about security solutions that are more short-term than anything else? You may not be aware of tamper-evident security labels, which can be applied to such items as test equipment and shut-off meters. Once a label is applied, it can be removed as well, which will leave a message along the lines of "Opened." This is one of the better security measures to inquire about, particularly if you are tasked with more short-term situations.
