Application Of Slope Indicator In A Medical Facility

By Matthew White

In the current days it is easier for medical practitioners to store data concerning their patients safely. Messages about a patients registration, discharge, admission and transfer is made possible through application of a HL7 ADT and Slope Indicator. This is the most commonly used technique since the messages can handle a large amount of information.

There are around fifty ones types of messages that are located within the admission, transfer and discharge ranges of data. Since the ADT messages give a reason why a message is being sent, they are very vital in the communications done through HL7. There might be varying urgency levels and the time taken to transmit the information based on the type of trigger event resulting to the messages at hand.

A message feed is a means through which a provider can get information from an information system of a hospital or a clinic. The information has to be constantly updated to keep the traffic within the software moving. Some of the examples of updating of data that can be done include alteration of that address, a change or addition of a patients name and addition of a relatives name.

Once the update has been done, the data can then flow to the various sections of that hospital where the data is needed. The information is often received through two kinds of interface, either through a point to point or an interface engine. The data can reach various places including connections outside the hospital such as private laboratory when using an interface engine.

The trigger events make the different messages vary in the way they are structured. This means that a message that results from a transfer of a patient will be different from that of a change of address that may be done. The two major components that are present in any kind of message however are patient identification and patient visit.

The identity of an individual is present through a patients identification which is the gender, the national identification number, name and date of birth. The data of the location of an individual is also presented through telephone number and the address. Alternatively, the patients visit component has information such as the name of the medical attendant and the date and time of the last visit.

Several aspects are put into consideration when placing the messages into categories in the interface. The main one is the positioning of that information in the interface and analyzing the necessary or optional data. It is also vital to consider whether data can be repeated in other areas or not. Furthermore, it is necessary to put the values in the sections through the use of figures and numbers.

In summary, the ADT messages allow a connection between all the systems present within a medical facility. Thus the medical practitioners are able to easily plan procedures and prescribe the right kind of medications. Furthermore, once appointments have been completed, the data is automatically stored for future reference by patients who wish to book another appointment in the same clinic.
