Specifications For Unmanned Surface Vessel Manufacturers

By Ronald Clark

Currently, military operations have a mind blowing sophistication. For every day that goes, these operations increasingly become more technical and complex. Reconnaissance of opponent movements and locations are among areas that have developed greatly. Today, high altitude unmanned aircraft and unmanned water vessels are increasingly being used in these operations. Normally, unmanned aircrafts have parabolic microphones, night vision equipment and heat sensors. These specifications are followed by unmanned surface vessel manufacturers.

The aircraft maintains communication with a ground station through satellite links. It is possible to operate these vessels from thousands of miles away, while keeping an eye on their speed, direction, position and other factors. The operator is always aware of the areas surrounding the vessel because the USV has onboard cameras that capture and upload images of the area around it.

After the photos are received, the operator then sends back information to the USV to give it commands. A USV is usually powered by its own source of power. It contains a housing that houses an antenna, power source, first and second speed controllers, and a receiver. All these elements normally have their own specific purposes on the USV.

The function of the receiver is to receive commands that are transmitted from the transmitter at the control station. Since the commands are received in the form of weak signals, the antenna exits to amplify them before they can be acted upon by the USV. The USV is also equipped with the left and right motors, which are controlled by the first and second speed controllers respectively. All these components are then powered by a power source.

There are back and front cameras that are fitted on the housing. The model of the vehicle will determine the number of cameras that can be found on a specific USV. Cameras are also installed on the sides if the situation demands. In order for the cameras to last for a long time, they are designed to be resistant to humidity and water.

There are many sizes of these vehicles. The goal the vehicle should perform dictates its size. The smallest versions of these vessels may measure as little as a few meters. For the huge versions, they can extend beyond 50 meters in length. The design of military USVs allows them to be able to carry weapons.

In order to carry weapons effectively, they are designed to be long and heavy. Big military USVs can displace thousands of tons of water, and can deliver a very huge payload. Besides carrying weapons, they are designed to carry a lot of navigation and reconnaissance equipment. From the size, it is easy to think that these vessels have a human crew onboard from a distance.

Usually, USVs applied in military operations have camouflage. This is one of the design specifications that are designed to make it hard for enemies to spot the vessel. Besides, the surface is created from the material that reduces the bouncing of light and sound. This assists to hide the location of the USV at all instance.
